Who am I?
Hello! I'm Owen Porter, a third-year student at Gray's School of Art in Aberdeen, where I'm pursuing a BA (Hons) in Communication Design. My passion for graphic design and creative arts has been the driving force behind my journey. I have a particular interest in typography, poster design, and digital illustration, but I also have a deep appreciation for traditional design techniques such as printmaking and collage. I believe in the seamless integration of traditional and digital methods to create unique, impactful designs.
While I thrive in solo projects, I’ve found that collaborative work is equally rewarding, allowing me to expand my creative boundaries and explore new concepts through shared ideas. Visiting galleries and exhibitions is something I regularly do to broaden my artistic horizons, and travelling abroad has given me the opportunity to experience diverse cultures, further enriching my design perspective.
Outside of my studies, I have a love of music and enjoy exploring new sounds, attending concerts, and discovering up-and-coming bands. During the lockdown, I taught myself to play both the electric and bass guitar, and I've since started performing publicly as part of a duet, which has been an exciting new creative outlet for me. I enjoy gaming and my interest extends beyond just playing; I'm particularly fascinated by the art direction behind games, which often influences my own work.
As I approach graduation, I'm eager to continue my creative journey by working in a design studio surrounded by like-minded individuals who share my passion for innovative design and creative collaboration. I'm excited about the future and the opportunities that lie ahead in the world of graphic design.
